Despite the pandemic, the OBA has been actively working towards its goal of keeping the former
students of SJPUC connected to their Alma Mater. The Core Committee meetings are held at least
twice a month where ideas are shared and events are planned but the team has been able to meet only
virtually for the past few months. However, this has not stopped the OBA from switching to the new
normal. Since its inception in January, SJPUC OBA has organized several events under the guidance
of the President, Roger Doss.
1. Covid-19 Relief Fund - As the first task, the OBA Team of SJPUC sprung into action and
organized a fundraiser to aid the people who were financially affected due to the coronavirus
pandemic. An amount of INR. 70,000 was successfully raised and this fund was used to provision the
needs of migrant workers in the form of daily essentials.
SJPUC OBA launched a campaign on its official Instagram page requesting donations. The funds that
were received were handed over to the Principal, Rev. Fr. Melvin Lobo SJ.
2. Spotlight was an Instagram event that featured some of our high achieving former students who
shared their success stories with us. The SJPUC OBA teems with Extra-Ordinary Achievers who
have gone against all odds to achieve exceptional feats. It was about time we brought them into the
spotlight to relate their stories and inspire us all.
3. Virtual Teacher's day celebration - In the first-ever virtual Teachers’ Day celebration at SJPUC,
the OBA collaborated with the Student Council of SJPUC to host the programme on 5 September
2020. It was a fun-filled event with some entertaining quizzes about SJPUC. A selfie video contest for
the teachers was also organized, followed by a video tribute dedicated to the teaching and non-
teaching staff. The prizes for the selfie video contest were sponsored by Mohammad Siraj, Proprietor
- ‘Brown Shop’ who gave away gift vouchers to the winners chosen by the SJPUC OBA Core
Committee.
There are many ways to engage in the OBA activities from career and academic mentoring and
volunteering time on- and off-campus events, to simply attending academic and social events as a
great way to reconnect with old friends. The OBA is devoted to promoting alumni successes and
ensuring that our former students are included in every event.
The Old Boys Association recommends these simple activities that inspire pride and build our
community.
