The Independence day celebration was another remarkable day for SJPUC specially as 15 August 2022, was observed as “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 years of our independence from colonial Powers. It carried a whole lot of emotions and stories from the past. Rev. Fr. Dr Oswald Mascarenhus SJ,was the Chief Guest for the day.The formal programme began with an Inter- Religious prayer by the Students of SJPUC, followed by an auspicious moment the lighting of The lamp. Fr. Oswald shared his insights on how we should enjoy this beautiful Privilege to be free from the shackles of Colonial powers. He spoke About his experience of being present at the first Flag hoisting ceremony At St. Aloysius College, Mangalore at the age of ten.He further stated that the recording of the speech of Mahatma Gandhi And Pandit Nehru were played. Fr. Stressed on Gandhian principles of Hope and Liberty. Stating how unemployment could come to an end one Day, he mentioned that ‘Real Independence is from want and Destitution’and ‘From Progress to Progress and Honor to Honor’. Students performed a medley of patriotic songs and a skit as part of Our cultural events.Prizes were distributed for the events conducted during the patriotic Week.
